Common Questions and Background for Team Action VIP

PROGRAM: So, what is Team Action VIP?

Team Action VIP is an internship program where employers and students benefit from a work relationship. It is based out of Valley High School and is an extension of the high school learning environment.

Team Action VIP has many benefits for students. It is a Smaller Learning Community where students who might otherwise “fall through the cracks,” can get the individual attention and support they need to graduate. VIP provides a safe, family atmosphere in which teach- ers and students work together toward meeting academic goals.

INTERNSHIP: What is an Internship?

Internships are jobs that VIP students report to every Tuesday. Students must be employed for at least 6 1/2 hours a day, equivalent of a normal school day. Students arrange their own transportation to and from their jobsite, and ar- rive at work at the time you designate. The stu- dents receive credit for their internship, so it is important that they be actively engaged in learn- ing every week.

Students have been placed on jobs at City Hall, medical offices, retail stores, veterinarian hospitals, and the zoo! The jobsite possibilities are endless! Every effort is made to match a stu- dent to the jobsite closest to their career goals.

COMMUNICATION

Education is a partnership between home and school. We value parent involvement at every level and encourage you to partner with us. In order for this partnership to be effective, we need to be able to communicate.

Please feel free to call, write a note, or e-mail me if you have any concerns or questions about your child’s education. We will make ourselves available to attend a conference to discuss any issue or concern you may have.
