The IB program at Valley High School is divided into two fundamental elements.
The first two years of the program, known as the Middle Years Program, enables students to be willful and conscious participants in their own learning. Rigorous coursework emphasizes translatable skills and active learning.
The final two years of the program, known as the Diploma Program, is a rigorous college-preparatory program where advanced coursework in all subject areas culminates in the students’ ability to clearly articulate their mastery of the subject.
Our Results:
By virtue of the level and depth of their knowledge at the conclusion of the IB program, students are automatically prepared for the increasing competitive college application process.

Valley IB has Talent
The Middle Years Program
Valley's Middle Years Program (IBMYP) focuses on the whole student, not just the parts that show up on standardized tests. Students are at the center of learning, and teaching them the skills they need to master their own learning is critical to the experience. The rigor of their coursework is higher than that of an Honors-level course in all subjects, yet the emphasis is on process instead of curriculum. Student development of independent learning skills is supported by a strongly-knit community of teachers and IB students at all ages and levels.
Ultimately, we are focused on developing in students an understanding and ownership of their own learning. Technology and knowledge is progressing at a rapid rate - we want to foster behaviors that enable students to learn whatever they need to know (skill or information) in any area. We seek to foster mastery of the process of learning as a skill that translates across all subject areas in permeates all aspects of life.
During their sophomore year, each IB student will participate in a Personal Project, where they will explore an area of particular interest to that student and create a tangible result that demonstrates their learning.

The Diploma Program
The IB Diploma Program is a rigorous college-preparatory program. The students are enrolled in the most academically challenging courses in all subjects for the 11th- and 12th-grade years, which culminates in six high-content exams.
Diplomats and transplanted businessmen faced the challenge of finding quality education regardless of location. The International Baccalaureate Organization was founded in the 1960s to create a global opportunity for the highest levels of education. Students earning the IB Diploma (for which the program is named) prove themselves undeniably capable of the most rigorous academic work in a variety of subject areas. They demonstrate this ability in clarity of thought, eloquence in written and spoken language, and their resilience in the face of adversity.
Students in the IB Diploma Program demonstrate their learning by participating in six subject-related tests. These tests are externally evaluated and compared to the performance of other IB students globally. Students who achieve high scores on these tests may earn college credit at participating universities. High performance across subject-tests may earn students the highly illustrious IB Diploma.

Student Spotlight
Read Masino joined the Valley IB family from KO Knudson. Her teacher, Ms. Prock, recommended her for the advanced program, and Read jumped at the opportunity.
Though quiet and reserved as a freshman, Read has come out of her shell and distinguished herself as the embodiment of what an IB student is. She works hard. She is involved in student life at the school (she is our IB Council President this year). And she genuinely enjoys learning new things.
If you are visiting our campus or a native there, be sure to say hello to Read when you see her. Ask her how her day is. Ask her about her Personal Project. Take the opportunity to meet this fantastic student, and you will see why we are so proud of the kind of people we have in the IB.
